Millay created several garden rooms, all made private with rock walls or tall hedges.
Most had a wooden doorway, which are still standing
Each room is being restored, and in time will be as they were during Edith's years at Steepletop
The "poles" behind the pool are the trunks of arborvitae, which after
Edith's death was never pruned for the 36 years her sister lived here.
The ESVM Society is planning to take out the stumps and once again plant the arborvitae
to create the walls for the garden rooms.
Edna's (or Vincent, as she preferred to be called)
writing cabin
Originally an ice house, but later on...as guest cottage
GROWN-UP
WAS it for this I uttered prayers
And sobbed and cursed and kicked the stairs,
That now, domestic as a plate,
I should retire at half-past eight?

I love the "feel" of the photos--lush and so full of color.
