Southern California Vacation - Days 1 and 2


 Sunday, January 27 bus to Stockton
Train to Turlock/Denair

 Betty picked me up and we headed for Bakersfield
 

    
 Dinner at Hungry Hunter.  I thought all those restaurants had closed, but perhaps only in northern California


Monday

Brief trip southwest of Bakersfield in Weedpatch  to see the migrant labor camp  set up for the Dust Bowl migrants.

This is definitely an optimistic slogan.  



 Only one left of the old houses .  I doubt it was this color in the 30's.

 

I did my Huell Howser impressions today.

It was here that Betty discovered she'd left  her cc at Hungry Hunter last night.
So back we headed the 27 miles north to Bakersfield

 Over The Grapevine
Grapevine is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California, at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley.At an elevation of 1499 feet (457 m),the community is located at the foot of a road grade known as The Grapevine that starts at the mouth of Grapevine Canyon, immediately south of the community, and ascends the canyon to the Tejon Pass in the Tehachapi Mountains via Interstate 5 (formerly U.S. Route 99)
